FLORENCE, SC — The Steel Joist Institute will host Part 2 of a two-part series on "Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders" on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm EST, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
Part 2 builds on the learning objectives from the Part 1 webinar held in October, which focused on the methods to evaluate existing open web steel joists and Joist Girders for revised loading conditions. In this follow-up webinar, presenters will discuss and demonstrate the methods to modify these existing open web steel joists and Joist Girders. The webinar parallels the SJI publication Technical Digest No. 12 and will award 1.5 PDHs. Participation in the October webinar is not required to attend this one.
During the webinar, presenters will cover:
- Updated methods and practices to modify existing joists to increase the load-carrying capacity.
- Practices that are commonly used to increase the load-carrying capacity of a joist component.
- The realistic limits of modifications, as well as alternatives when modifications are not possible.
- Examples where the joist lengths have been altered.
