SJI to Host Webinar on Vibration Analysis of Steel Joist Concrete Floor Systems

FLORENCE, SC - The Steel Joist Institute (SJI) will host a webinar on "Vibration Analysis of Steel Joist Concrete Floor Systems” on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The webinar will award 1.5 PDHs.  

Human-induced vibration is an important limit state for floors. This webinar will address the most common questions and misconceptions about structural vibration serviceability of steel joist concrete floor systems. It will also answer questions about the updated evaluation methods for sensitive equipment and finite element analysis methods featured in the second edition of AISC Design Guide 11, along with the SJI Technical Digest 5 -“Vibration of Steel Joist–Concrete Slab Floors.”

The learning objectives include:

  • Recognize and describe common pitfalls and misconceptions of vibration analysis.
  • Learn specific considerations needed when designing concrete slab steel joist floors.
  • Offer suggested procedures and criteria for determining the adequacy of steel joist concrete floors subjected to human movement such as walking and rhythmic activities.
  • Learn some basic concepts needed for the use of the finite element for vibration serviceability analysis.
