WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) will host a session on “Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment” at 2019 NASCC: The Steel Conference in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in Room 127. It will be hosted by Mark Thimons, P.E., LEED AP-BD+C, AISI’s vice president of sustainability; and Brandie Sebastian, LCACP, AISI’s director of sustainability. 2019 NASCC: The Steel Conference is hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction and will take place April 3-5, 2019 at America’s Center Convention Complex. It is the premier educational and networking event for the structural steel industry, bringing together structural engineers, steel fabricators, erectors and detailers.

“Several codes, standards and green building rating systems now encourage the development of whole building life cycle assessment for new building designs,” said Thimons. “This session is targeted to architects and engineers and will investigate how these assessments are conducted. It will also identify some of the potential challenges in the process.”

Thimons and Sebastian will present preliminary findings from a study underway to compare whole building life cycle impacts of steel and wood mid-rise structures. The session awards 1.0 PDH. For more information or to register for 2019 NASCC, visit https://www.aisc.org/nascc/.

AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice.
