AISI Publishes Supplement 1 to AISI S310-20, North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels
WASHINGTON, D.C. –The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has published Supplement 1 to AISI S310-20, North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels, 2020 Edition. Supplement 1 clarifies the design requirements for diaphragms filled with structural concrete used in the construction of floors. It also provides direction on calculating the resistance of perimeter attachment fasteners including headed studs, welds, screws and proprietary fasteners. Supplement 1 is available for free download at www.aisistandards.org.
“This Supplement ensures that AISI S310-20 is a completely integrated resource for the design of floor deck diaphragms,” said Steel Deck Institute Technical Director Thomas Sputo, Ph.D., P.E., S.E. He noted that the changes are included in the Standard’s Section B1, “Safety Factors and Resistance Factors of Diaphragms With Steel Supports,” and Section D4, “Steel Deck Diaphragms With Structural Concrete or Insulating Concrete Fills” and its subsections.
AISI serves as the voice of the American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI’s membership is comprised of integrated and electric arc furnace steelmakers, and associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.
