Complimentary Steel Bridge 6-Part Live Lecture Series to be Held October 30 – November 15

WASHINGTON, DC  Federal funding allocated through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to repair or replace as many as 15,000 bridges in the United States is making its way into state and county budgets. In response, bridge owners and designers are seeking economical and time-saving ways to apply that funding to critical projects. To assist in the materials decision-making process, the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) and University of Wyoming are teaming up to host a free six-part online live-lecture educational series for bridge owners, designers, engineers, faculty, students and others with an interest in steel bridges. The “Steel Bridge Education Lectures: From Concept to Delivery” webinar series will cover the many aspects of designing, fabricating and constructing steel bridges, which provide durable, efficient and sustainable infrastructure solutions. The online lectures will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET beginning on October 30 and continuing on November 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15. The lectures can be viewed synchronously (in real time) and asynchronously (recorded version).

The lectures will be delivered live by Michael Barker, Ph.D., P.E., professor of civil and architectural engineering at the University of Wyoming, via the WyoLearn Learning Management System. Dr. Barker has over 30 years of experience in steel bridge design and construction.

The lecture series will cover:

  • October 30 – Bridge Infrastructure, Steel Bridge Industry, Types of Bridge Steels and Benefits of Steel Bridges
  • November 1 – Short Span Steel Girder Bridge Economics and Design Tool eSPAN140
  • November 6 – Multi-Span Steel Girder Bridges and Design Tool SIMON
  • November 8 – Detailing, Fabrication, Durability and Corrosion Protection
  • November 13 – Accelerated Bridge Construction, Substructures, Superstructures and Case Studies
  • November 15 – Bridge Manufacturer Solutions Showcase

Participants can earn a Certificate of Completion at the end of the series by completing and passing a quiz after each lecture. The certificate can be used to build resumes or fulfill continuing education requirements.
